The subject presents the foundations of theological ethics as understood by the Catholic Church, but it is open for all those interested, irrespective of their attitude to religion, i.e. also for those not living in the Christian faith.
The subject deals with the basic questions as what is ethics, how can its validity be verified, what is the relation between ethics and religion, what is the role of conscience, the questions of the Church authority and individual responsibility etc. The general principles are exemplified by concrete applications.
Fundamentals of Theological Ethics I is not a prerequisite for Fundamentals of Theological Ethics II, so it is also possible to start with part II – on condition that the student studies the prescribed literature partly covering part I.

Mlada Mikulicová, Ph.D. Code: KJAZ 193 Summer term Sign up at 4 ECTS Date and hour will be specified for Summer term. Language: English Course with multimedia support. Topics: Biblical Hebrew within the Semitic language family, Hebrew Old Testament and its Ancient Near Eastern context, the development of writing in the ANE area, Hebrew abgad, the work of vocalization, ancient translations of the Biblical text. Some introduction will be done into the special grammatic features of Biblical Hebrew: prefixation/suffixation, verbal root, characteristics of the nominal and verbal systems as well as syntactic specialties. Textual topics include the question of the divine name, examples of Biblical narrative, poetry, prophecy, and wisdom.
Knowledge of Hebrew is welcome but not necessary.
At conclusion of the course the student is supposed to master vocal reading as well as some essential Biblical vocabulary terms, and to show knowledge of the topics discussed. All these will be tested.
