The Annual Conference 2023 of the Institute for Global Church and Mission aims to offer a forum for intercultural exchange and lived synodality. Based on the results of an empirical study on the relevance of the central topics of the German Synodal Way (power, women, priesthood, and sexuality) for local churches worldwide (Link to article in English), the activity wants to contribute to understanding to what extend and in which sense these topics are important for other churches, and which kind of expectations do Catholics from different pastoral contexts have. We also want to identify and highlight other topics that could be equally or more relevant for Catholic communities of the Global Church. In addition, the conference would like to delve into the cultural, political, social, and ecclesial conditions that play a significant role in the local evaluation of these themes. Finally, reflections on theological resources and structural issues will be offered for discussion in order to foster discernment on the way toward a more synodal Church.
The annual conference is addressed to all persons interested in a concrete reflection on synodality worldwide, especially on the tension between diversity and the unity of the global Church. To facilitate the intercultural exchange, a good balance between lectures and workshops will be offered in three languages: English, German and Spanish.
In order to adequately organize the conference and the need for translation, we would kindly ask all the persons interested in participating to pre-register at the following link, indicating the language(s) of preference: https://bit.ly/DoingSynodality_PreRegistration. Pre-Registration is not mandatory but helps us to be well-prepared. Thank you very much!
